Bell Microproducts Selects Overland Storage SRM Software

January 22, 2003

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of storage solutions, today announced that Bell Microproducts, an international, value-added provider of high-technology products, solutions, and services, has chosen Overland's Storage Resource Manager (SRM) software. Bell Microproducts will use Overland's heterogeneous storage resource management solution to increase network reliability, IT staff efficiency and costs by assessing and managing its existing storage facilities and eliminating unnecessary storage throughout the organization.

"One of the easiest ways to boost network efficiency and reduce IT costs is to gain an accurate picture of the data you're storing and where you're storing it. Storage resource management is key to identifying this," said John Cloyd, vice president of Overland's storage management business unit. "Overland's Storage Resource Manager is an effective tool for analyzing storage trends and optimizing storage resources by as much as 50 percent."

Through Overland SRM's policy based management, Bell Microproducts can automate the management of its network attached storage (NAS) and direct attached storage (DAS). SRM provides the ability to view all of the data in storage systems, set automated policies to manage it, and display information on storage growth and usage statistics. For the first time, Bell Microproducts will be able to set policies that allow it to identify all stale, duplicate and inappropriate files across its range of servers and eliminate these files. This automated file grooming frees IT staff time to focus on more productive issues, while reducing the need to purchase additional storage and an already tight backup schedule.

Overland SRM is designed for Windows NT/2000, Novell Netware, Sun Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and Linux operating systems. Product features include:

  • Automated Policy Management: Automated storage and system threshold monitoring detects and takes action when a policy is breached.

  • Instant Reporting: Automatic scheduling and delivery on all systems and storage monitored by Overland SRM.

  • Comprehensive Notification Tools: SNMP, email, pager and pop-up messages.

  • Trending: Easy storage and system performance resource tracking analysis.

  • Push Installation: Remote NT/2000 agent installation with Autostart.
