Overland LibraryXpress Certified With BakBone's NetVault Storage Management Software

August 1, 2000

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2000--Overland Data Inc. (Nasdaq:OVRL), a technology leader in data storage and backup products, today announced that its award-winning DLT(a) LibraryXpress(TM) has been certified by San Diego-based BakBone Software (TSE:BKB) (OTCBB:BKBOF) as compatible with BakBone's NetVault(TM) storage management software.

The certification with NetVault, which features unparalleled ease of use and scalability among its primary benefits, is a tangible demonstration of how Overland has taken one more step in its initiative to offer its customers the broadest operability choices with powerful next-generation storage management software.

"Companies have a growing need to handle rapidly increasing amounts of corporate-critical data. NetVault makes it easy for them to handle that explosive growth, whether in today's LAN-centric storage environments or tomorrow's SAN-centric configurations," said Steve Richardson, vice president of Marketing at Overland.

"The powerful combination of our DLT libraries with NetVault means users can rapidly scale up as their storage requirements expand, with a point-and-click upgrade capability for SAN environments with shared DLT tape drives. In becoming certified with NetVault, we have continued to expand the third-party support for Overland technology on `best of breed' SAN software," said Richardson.

"The range of options afforded by the combination of NetVault and Overland's award-winning LibraryXpress creates an extremely attractive package and provides a completely modular approach to capabilities and performance," said Tony Cerqueira, BakBone Software's chief executive officer.

"As part of a SAN environment, Overland offers users a clear choice for flexibility and ease of use; the reliability of the LibraryXpress has been successfully put to the test in thousands of installations worldwide."

Winner of more than 24 prestigious editorial awards, Overland's DLT LibraryXpress has established new standards of reliability for automated tape libraries. Its fault-tolerant design and unmatched scalability have been verified by OEM customers such as Compaq, IBM, Fujitsu Siemens and Groupe Bull.

The LibraryXpress is designed for entry-level automation applications starting at 50 GB, and scalable to 8.5 TB for network storage. The flexible SmartScale Storage(R) architecture of the LibraryXpress eliminates the physical limitations of conventional tape library designs, and allows network administrators to mix various Capacity and Base Modules to fine-tune the LibraryXpress as it is expanded. The ratio of tape drives to cartridges can be balanced to achieve the optimal configuration based on the customer's individual capacity, performance and budget requirements.

Overland's Global Control Module (LXG) offers single-point library control to the attached host system and exclusive XpressChannel(TM) for efficient cartridge access to any library drive in the stackable system.

Overland DLTtape products are backed by the company's innovative Guaranteed Up Time Service (GUTS(TM)) warranty program guaranteeing 99% uptime performance and 100% data recovery, the only guarantee of its kind in the industry.
