Overland Receives the Innovation Trophy for Web TLC at Stockage 2000 Show in Paris

October 11, 1999

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 1999--Overland Data, Inc. (Nasdaq:OVRL), a technology leader in data storage and backup products, received the Innovation Trophy for Product of the Year for its Web TLC(TM) (Total Library Control) solution for global remote storage management during the Stockage 2000 in Paris on September 29-30, 1999.

In making the announcement, Overland noted that this award adds to a long and impressive list of 19 editorial honors for the company's automated storage solutions.

After the judging was concluded, only four awards total were presented at the event, with over 80 companies in competition. Overland won for its Web TLC technology that enables remote operation and management of Overland's automated tape libraries and loaders from anywhere in the world via a standard Web browser.

Overland's Web TLC technology is the first platform-independent solution that allows a central administrator to remotely configure, monitor and control Overland's DLTtape-based automated storage solutions. Web TLC supports real-time alerts with TapeAlert-compatible backup software and SNMP-compliant network management consoles. However, Web TLC technology goes beyond those functions by also allowing remote operators to configure, control and diagnose the libraries instead of just supporting activity and receiving error notifications.

Web TLC technology is built around a thin Web server developed by Overland and is fully compatible with the company's installed customer base of more than 15,000 automated DLTtape libraries and loaders. Web TLC can be optionally integrated into Overland's new EnterpriseXpress(TM) library and can be ordered as an add-on for the company's LibraryXpress(TM), MinilibraryXpress(TM) and LoaderXpress(TM).

Web TLC operates with all the leading Web browsers and does not utilize the host server connected to the tape library, making it universally compatible with a variety of Windows NT and UNIX platforms, and allowing Overland libraries with Web TLC functionality to be deployed throughout an enterprise.
