Overland Receives Resellers Choice Award From Computer Technology Review for DLT1-LoaderXpress

April 24, 2000

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2000--Overland Data Inc. (Nasdaq:OVRL), a technology leader in tape backup products, received Computer Technology Review's coveted "Resellers Choice," a designation bestowed on the latest technology innovations for the reseller market, in the March 2000 issue.

The award was for the company's recently announced LoaderXpress built around DLT1 technology.

Resellers Choice awards from Computer Technology Review, a publication respected for its knowledge and coverage of the storage market, signal the magazine's affirmation of up-and-coming products and services deemed worthwhile to the reseller community.

Calling it the "next step in its corporate strategy to supply entry-level to enterprise solutions," the review lists price, value, robustness and reliability of the DLT(a) technology as key elements of Overland's DLT1 tape subsystem and DLT1-based version of its LoaderXpress.

This new award adds to an impressive list of editorial wins for Overland automated storage solutions, totaling more than 20 to date.

"We are honored that Computer Technology Review has seen fit to recognize Overland's products with this latest Resellers Choice award," said Steve Richardson, vice president of marketing for Overland. "The DLT1 solutions fulfill our mission to deliver entry-level to enterprise storage solutions to our customers, allowing them to operate with a single, compatible tape platform strategy. And for storage automation, they can now take advantage of Overland's award-winning robotics technology as well."

The DLT1-based products bring Overland customers economical additions to the company's comprehensive DLT-based solutions and leverage the unprecedented value of the DLT1 format to open up the robustness and reliability of DLT technology to customers that have previously been limited to 4mm and 8mm products. It is backward read-compatible with DLT4000, offering an excellent growth path for current DLT4000 customers.

Based on technology licensed from Quantum Corp., the Benchmark DLT1 tape drive offers a 40 GB native capacity (80 GB compressed) and a 3 MB/second native transfer rate (6 MB/sec compressed), providing enterprise reliability and performance at entry-level pricing.

Comparably priced DDS drives offer a native capacity of just 20 GB and a data transfer rate of only 2.4 MB/sec, along with the inherent complexity of the DDS format and consumer electronics heritage of 4mm digital audio tape technology. With the rapid growth in entry-level server disk capacity, users whose needs are starting to exceed the performance and capacity of DDS can now move into DLT technology.

Computer Technology Review is a monthly tabloid dealing exclusively with computer technology information for resellers and integrators. The publication's mission is to provide integrators with the information needed to evaluate, specify, integrate and implement working systems that match multiple vertical applications.
