Overland Storage Introduces New Scale-Out NAS Platform With More Features, More Capacity and More Intelligence

September 12, 2013
Now With Unified Block and File Access and a New Platform That Is 50% More Space Efficient

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/12/13 -- Overland Storage (NASDAQ: OVRL), the trusted leader in data management and data protection has launched their latest scale-out NAS platform, the SnapScale X4. The SnapScale X4 provides a high-density solution to more efficiently manage growing amounts of unstructured data. The new clustered NAS offering now unifies NAS and iSCSI storage volumes under one global namespace helping enterprises strike the balance between storage capacity and return on investment, while still maintaining the ability to expand.

The SnapScale X4 will allow businesses to take full advantage of iSCSI block-level access for hosted databases, virtualization and other applications that can leverage block access over well-understood IP networks. All SnapScale platforms, which are VMware and Microsoft certified, maximize performance and provide greater redundancy, making it ready to meet the unique and very complex demands of companies with unpredictable data growth. This unified architecture is perfect for organizations that require a highly available primary storage solution that consolidates file-based and block-based access into a single, scalable storage architecture providing maximum uptime.

With up to 36 drives in one node and the ability to house 1.4 Petabytes of capacity in a standard 42U server rack, the SnapScale X4 clustered NAS solution is designed to help companies maximize valuable rack space. The clustered architecture intelligently deploys file-level data striping between drives, and uses dynamic Data Balancing, which ensures that when a cluster is expanded, files are simply rebalanced to optimize all resources within the cluster. This results in increased performance and maximized availability as the cluster scales.

Joe Disher, Director of Product Marketing for Disk Based Products, Overland Storage explained: "By supporting more drives within each SnapScale node than ever before, we are able to help companies manage the rapid growth and management of unstructured data which has become a real issue for IT administrators. While density is key to maximizing rack space efficiencies, businesses are increasingly migrating to a virtualized infrastructure and the SnapScale X4 helps our customers support these efforts, as well as providing them with all of the existing benefits they have come to expect from SnapScale."

As well as these latest features, SnapScale X4 continues to offer the benefits that have become synonymous with the SnapScale brand. Built on RAINcloud™ OS and using Rapid Rebuild technology, SnapScale provides 99.999% uptime and a no-single-point-of-failure architecture along with enterprise-class features such as redundancy, snapshots, automatic failover, replication and flexible provisioning.

With the ability to easily add hundreds of petabytes of capacity, SnapScale X4 can scale to support the largest of capacity needs, allowing businesses to grow their storage infrastructure non-disruptively. Simple to deploy, manage and scale -- a SnapScale X4 cluster can be configured in less than 10 minutes with no added management complexities as the storage infrastructure grows.

Terri McClure, Sr. Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group commented: "Whether a company requires a resilient archiving facility for compliance reasons, disk-to-disk backup facilities for business continuity, or an economical, high capacity multi-site replication strategy, enterprises are juggling many different data demands at the moment, and they often do it with many different storage arrays. SnapScale X4 aims to meet these challenges with a simple, effective, and scalable solution. This will enable companies to focus on their core business goals without worrying about unnecessary challenges due to explosive storage demands."
