Active/Active 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel Controllers for Industry-Leading
Performance
SAN DIEGO, June 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL) today announced the ULTAMUS(TM) RAID 4800, the newest model in its ULTAMUS family of general-purpose storage arrays with industry-leading capacity, density and performance. The ULTAMUS RAID 4800 is designed to address escalating capacity requirements while minimizing infrastructure and management complexity. The product is ideally suited for managing data growth as a result of increased storage consolidation, server virtualization, regulatory compliance, digital content creation and application file expansion.
Overland's ULTAMUS RAID 4800 employs the latest in high-speed storage architectures, enterprise SATA drive technologies and expansion-on-demand capabilities. ULTAMUS RAID 4800 provides up to 36 TBs of data in a single 4U rack enclosure with 48 Enterprise SATA II drives. The product's expansion-on-demand feature supports seamless scaling up to 72 TBs in 8U of rack space without any performance degradation or downtime. In addition to industry-leading capacity and space efficiency, the ULTAMUS RAID 4800 delivers high performance levels along with a wide assortment of advanced functionality, including:
- Dual 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel host connectivity;
- 3 Gb/s point-to-point SAS architecture;
- Dual active/active RAID controllers;
- Fully redundant critical components, including controllers, cooling systems and power supplies;
- Support for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 6;
- Broad OS and application support including Windows, Linux and VMware;
- Web-based management console operates as a "manager of managers" by consolidating control and monitoring of multiple enclosures from a single window; and
- Intuitive LUN mapping and extensive remote notification capabilities.
According to Michael Kerman, vice president of worldwide marketing and chief strategy officer for Overland Storage, the ULTAMUS RAID 4800 enables IT managers to keep pace with the inevitable growth of application data while meeting ever-increasing storage capacity requirements. "ULTAMUS RAID 4800 provides the right balance of capacity, scalability, performance and availability -- all at a much more affordable price than competing solutions," he says. "Moreover, this new addition to the ULTAMUS RAID line-up blends seamlessly with Overland's REO(TM) disk-based VTL appliance as well as NEO(TM) and ARCvault(TM) tape libraries to provide additional layers of tiered data protection."
According to Enterprise Strategy Group, secondary storage is one of the fastest growing areas for a number of applications, including business-critical applications, long-term digital archives, disk-to-disk backup, near-line, etc. "That is the area of the market that Overland is focusing on with its ULTAMUS RAID 4800 solution," says Tony Asaro, senior analyst. "It offers such a great price and performance story, especially for a storage system that supports dual active-active controllers, FC connectivity, high-performance SAS architecture and RAID 6 support. End users really need to pay attention to this system."
For Dallas Digital Services, a Colleyville, Tex.-based value-added reseller and service provider of enterprise-level, mission-critical storage solutions, Overland's ULTAMUS RAID 4800 is a great fit for existing storage virtualization environments where companies are seeking additional, affordable capacity in order to better leverage intelligent virtualization features such as snapshots, replication and data migration. "When combined with storage virtualization offerings, Overland's new disk array provides the best of both worlds," explains Rick Essex, director of enterprise storage at Dallas Digital Services. "ULTAMUS RAID 4800 delivers the performance and availability required in an affordable array that costs substantially less in initial purchase and ongoing support than traditional disk products from tier-one vendors."
ULTAMUS RAID seamlessly integrates with Overland's REO, NEO and ARCvault backup and recovery appliances, enabling storage buyers to match the value of their data with the cost of their storage solutions using a combination of cost-effective yet powerful disk and tape solutions. Overland's ULTAMUS RAID 4800 joins the ULTAMUS RAID 1200, which shipped earlier this year and houses up to 12 SATA II or SAS drives and up to 9 TBs of storage capacity in each compact 2U rack-mountable enclosure.
Availability and Pricing
Overland's ULTAMUS RAID 4800 now is available from Overland partners worldwide for a starting MSRP of $46,861.
