Overland Storage Simplifies Library Management With New Library Partitioning Option

February 10, 2003
SAN DIEGO, Feb 10, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of storage solutions, today announced the availability of its patented Library Partitioning Option (LPO), a new advancement in storage management. Partitioning for Overland's Neo Series(TM) tape library provides an opportunity to simplify storage management with consolidation. Many IT organizations are frustrated by the need to maintain disparate and incompatible backup environments while at the same time knowing that centralization of their backups will reduce cost and improve reliability. Neo Series partitioning makes it possible to centralize these existing environments without expensive software conversions.

"Partitioning in a Neo Series tape library significantly improves storage management. Enterprises typically use a specific backup software and tape backup product for a particular operating system or application. This results in the use of multiple backup products causing difficulty in learning, operating, and maintenance of disparate products spread throughout the enterprise," said Bob Scroop, vice president and general manager of Overland's storage resource business unit. "Our Library Partitioning enables users to purchase one Neo Series tape library, logically partition it into smaller tape libraries, and assign each partition to a backup software product. This gives an enterprise the benefits of centralized backup such as security, reliability, reporting, control and hardware management, and reduces floor space requirements in the data center."

With the Neo Series and LPO, users also can solve tape migration and management problems very cost effectively. The solution supports all major drive technologies including DLT, SDLT and LTO Ultrium, as well as data transfer protocols such as Fibre Channel and SCSI. Each partition in the Neo Series can support its own unique drive type and protocol, enabling the entire tape library to support several different backup environments simultaneously.

The Neo Series partitioning option installs quickly into a Neo Series card bay and is currently available. To learn more about this product, please visit: www.overlandstorage.com .
