Sphere 3D Announces Glassware 2.0 Support for Google Drive

February 9, 2015

Virtual Application Users Can Now Utilize Cloud Storage in the Same Manner as Physical Deployments

SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwired – Feb 9, 2015) – Sphere 3D Corporation (NASDAQ: ANY), a virtualization and data management solutions provider, today announced cloud storage integration through new Google Drive support for Glassware 2.0®, making it simple for users to utilize Glassware-virtualized Windows™ applications while maintaining files in their Google Drive accounts.

“Whether using an application virtualized and delivered by a server running Glassware, or an application native to a device, we want users to be able to maintain the flexibility they have come to expect, such as the freedom to choose where they want to store their data,” said Peter Tassiopoulos, President of Sphere 3D. “We believe that by enabling our technology to fit existing real world computing trends, we can empower IT administrators to deliver the best possible user experience.”

Glassware 2.0 utilizes proprietary container technology to deliver Windows application workspaces in support of a variety of devices — such as Android®, Chromebook, iPad®, OS X® and Windows™ including Windows RT® — and can work within an existing IT infrastructure or operate as a standalone solution. The introduction of cloud storage support provides additional flexibility to users, while continuing to allow IT administrators the ability to maintain strong security protocols.

The Glassware 2.0 support of Google Drive allows users to access virtual Microsoft® applications from devices such as Chromebooks, while maintaining their files in Google Drive. By simply choosing to “open” a file while in their application, the user will see their Google Drive account the same way they would see any other drive. By choosing “save as,” their work can be saved back to their Google Drive account and users can continue to utilize the native capabilities within the Drive platform. According to Google, more than 240 million people were active Google Drive users as of October 2014.
