TMA Global Selects Overland Storage SRM Software

October 28, 2002
SAN DIEGO, Oct 28, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --

Heterogeneous Software Reduces Storage Utilization by Up to 50 Percent

Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of storage solutions, today announced that TMA Global, an international marketing specialist company based in the United Kingdom, has installed Overland's Storage Resource Manager (SRM) software. TMA Global uses the fully open storage resource management solution to assess and manage its existing storage facilities, eliminate unnecessary storage throughout the organization, and increase IT staff efficiency, thereby reducing costs.

"It is absolutely essential to the service we offer our customers that we ensure our back office solutions operate efficiently. Overland's SRM allows us to reduce our IT costs while improving the high level of service and support our customers demand," said David Brannan, chairman of TMA Global. "Using Overland SRM software, we expect to make significant savings over the next 12 months by increasing network reliability without increasing IT staff as a result of automating our storage management tasks."

Through Overland SRM's policy based management, TMA can automate the management of its network attached storage (NAS) and direct attached storage (DAS). SRM provides TMA with the ability to view all of the data in its storage systems, set automated policies to manage it, and display information on storage growth and usage statistics. For the first time, TMA will be able to set policies that allow it to identify all stale, duplicate and inappropriate files across its range of servers to eliminate these files. This automated file grooming frees IT staff time to focus on more productive issues for TMA, while reducing the need to purchase additional storage and an already tight backup schedule.

"ROI is at the top of the IT manager's agenda, and we anticipate that TMA Global will derive significant savings by using Overland SRM tools," said Gary Preston, northern region sales director for Overland Storage EMEA. "Many IT organizations can recover between 30 and 50 percent of their existing disk space by using Overland SRM, leading to lower hardware costs and personnel requirements. With Overland SRM, ROI is immediate, and the software is installed with no disruption to the network. In today's economic environment, organizations need the assurance that they're getting the most out of their existing storage systems. SRM addresses this by providing control and visibility that isn't generally otherwise available."

Overland's SRM optimizes storage resources in a multi-vendor, heterogeneous environment. It is designed for Windows NT/2000, Novell Netware, Sun Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and Linux operating systems. Additional Overland SRM features include:

-- Automated Policy Management: Automated storage and system threshold monitoring detects and takes action when a policy is breached.

-- Instant Reporting: Automatic scheduling and delivery on all systems and storage monitored by Overland SRM.

-- Comprehensive Notification Tools: SNMP, email, pager and pop-up messages.

-- Trending: Easy storage and system performance resource tracking analysis.

-- Push Installation: Remote NT/2000 agent installation with Autostart.

TMA Global constructs and implements UK, European and global integrated marketing communications solutions. Working across a number of industry sectors, TMA's customers include Xerox, Fujitsu Siemens, BEA Systems and Network Associates. Its wide customer base and quality of service makes efficient data storage a vital requirement.
