(Nasdaq:OVRL), a technology leader in tape backup products, received high praise for its DLT MinilibraryXpress(TM) in a review entitled "Overland Data's Dual-DLT Battleship Is Built to Last," which appeared in the April 3 edition of Network Computing magazine.
Reviewer Tom Yager gave kudos to the unit's durable construction and ample security features: "Overland Data's DLT MinilibraryXpress is one desktop (or rackmount) autoloader that can hold its own among even your most ham-handed operators," the review said. "This is server gear that craves abuse ... and is an ideal solution for ASPs (application service providers), data centers and service bureaus that run some sort of backup constantly.

Yager said he was impressed with the unit's quality, simplicity and ease-of-use. He highlighted how the machine continued to operate when subjected to tests such as tilting the cabinet at a steep angle and shaking the cabinet while the robot was operating. Yager also singled out the device's three-year warranty, 250,000-hour mean-time between failures, 1 million head passes per cartridge and 50,000-hour head life per drive.

The LXM8215 comes equipped with two DLT8000 tape drives and a magazine that holds 15 DLT cartridges. It was tested using a Microsoft Windows NT server equipped with dual 450-MHz Pentium II CPUs and 256 MB of RAM. Yager used Veritas Backup Exec 7.3 while storing the test data on a Consensys RAIDZone array with eight 27-GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus Ultra DMA/66 drives.
