SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2000--In the 24/7 environment of a busy urban hospital, even the computer systems can be as overworked as the interns.
For The Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the business of keeping people healthy generated a backup load of terabytes of data, causing the hospital's IT staff to look for a robust, yet flexible data storage solution.
The hospital's diverse operating environments for a variety of applications included Windows NT, Novell, HP and DEC servers. It was important to The Ottawa Hospital's Information Systems Technical Services department that their storage solution be compatible with ARCserve, their current storage management software.
The Ottawa Hospital reviewed and analyzed the available solutions on the market and selected Overland's LibraryXpress(TM) system for its reliability, scalability, value and compatibility.
"We needed a storage solution that works as hard as we do," said Jean-Pierre Nault of the hospital's IS Technical Services department. "The LibraryXpress provided the capacity we required plus the flexibility to scale up easily as our needs increased in the future. We knew we were likely to double, even triple, our backup load eventually and it was necessary to accommodate that growth in an affordable, easy to upgrade system."
Overland sent an engineer on-site who assisted in installing and configuring two new LibraryXpress systems, each equipped with one LXG Global Control Module, two LXB7110 Base Modules, and two LXC Capacity Modules for a total available capacity of more than 2.5 TB.
The Ottawa Hospital appreciated the personal assistance, which included training for simple on-site maintenance and first-level diagnosis, and intends to upgrade their existing LXB7110s to dual-drive libraries before long, plus add an additional LXC to each system when the need arises.
"What we were able to accomplish at The Ottawa Hospital was satisfying the customer's storage needs today and tomorrow," said Steve Richardson, vice president of marketing at Overland. "The modular design and scalable architecture of the LibraryXpress offers a clear upgrade path that ensures it won't become obsolete as soon as it's installed. The hospital now has the ability to scale up by adding Capacity Modules instead of investing in a whole new system, and the mainframe-class robotics will continue to work overtime just like the staff."
The award-winning DLT LibraryXpress is designed for entry-level automation applications starting at 50 GB, scalable to 4.8 TB for network storage.
