Overland CTO Honored as Industry Innovator by CRN Magazine

September 22, 2003

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), the leading provider of backup and recovery solutions trusted by Fortune 10,000 companies to ensure zero downtime, today announced that John Matze, vice president and chief technology officer is featured as one of CRN Magazine's "Top 25 Innovators" in the publication's Sept. 15 issue for his contributions to the storage industry.

At Overland, Matze plays a pivotal role in the evolution of Overland's entire range of product offerings. He also participates in the development of the Company's overall strategy and future product roadmaps. He oversees the development of iSCSI and Serial ATA-based products, which are the foundation for affordable appliances that facilitate "Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape" or D2D2T(TM) backup. The Company's recently-introduced REO SERIES(TM) of backup and recovery appliances accelerate backup by up to eight times that of competing solutions, while providing customers Fibre Channel performance without Fibre Channel cost and complexity.

With more than 14 years in the storage industry, Matze is a co-architect of the now-ratified standard iSCSI protocol. He is the author and principal architect of the award-winning Stac Replica, a server disaster recovery system.

"I am elated to be recognized as one of CRN's top 25 innovators," Matze said. "My background aligns with Overland's future strategy and growth, and I look forward to building on the Company's momentum and continuing the success."

Matze has extensive experience in the storage realm. Most recently, he served as president, CEO and co-founder of Okapi Software, which Overland recently acquired. Before founding Okapi, Matze served for three years as software director for VERITAS Software. He holds a bachelors degree in computer science from San Diego State University and an associates degree from the College of DuPage.

"The individuals included on the innovators list, including John Matze, have each made a significant contribution to the industry," said Christopher Calisi, president and CEO of Overland Storage. "John's expertise in iSCSI and his understanding of how it affects the market enhance Overland's industry-leading position in the disk-to-disk-to-tape space. We are extremely pleased that he has received this honor and anticipate great things from him in the future."
