Overland Announces Next-Generation Super DLTtape Technology Now Available In NEO Series Libraries

June 11, 2002
SAN DIEGO, Jun 11, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --

Unmatched Capacity of SDLT 320 Allows Customers Highest Storage Density And Lowest Total Cost of Ownership

Overland Data (Nasdaq: OVRL), the fastest growing provider of enterprise and mid-range storage solutions, announced that the industry's highest-performing, highest-capacity tape drive, the Quantum SDLT 320, is available to the mid- range storage automation market through Overland Data's NEO(TM) Series library line of products.

Based on Super DLTtape technology, the SDLT 320 drive holds 320 GB of compressed data, a 60 percent greater capacity than any mid-range tape technology. When coupled with NEO Series library solutions from Overland Data, the SDLT 320 drive provides tape automation customers the highest storage density, the lowest cost per gigabyte and the fastest backups available. Designed to handle the rigors of automated environments, the SDLT 320 is the ultimate drive for today's tape libraries.

"Our customers are looking forward to the availability of the NEO series enhanced with SDLT 320 as it offers increased capacity, performance and a cost savings of up to 33 percent in media," said Bob Scroop, vice president and general manager, Storage Resource Business Unit, Overland Data. "These are all very important factors for our customers who rely on Overland Data to provide the highest capacity, best overall automated solutions to meet their growing needs."

Overland Data will offer the SDLT 320 drive in its NEO Series 2000, 4100, 4200, 4300 and 4400 for both enterprise and workgroup solutions. The NEO Series is designed for optimum compatibility and performance with the SDLT 320 drive. NEO Series libraries can support up to 16 SDLT 320 drives and 208 cartridges, with a storage capacity of more than 33 terabytes and full scalability to meet expanding storage needs.

"With the accelerating increase of information today, the SDLT 320 combined with Overland's NEO series is a timely solution that gives IT managers what they need to reliably and cost-effectively protect their business critical information," said Andy Grolnick, vice president, Marketing, DLTtape Group, Quantum Corporation.

The NEO automated storage solution with SDLT 320 technology is designed for 100 percent duty cycle and fewer media swaps as compared to existing market offerings. And because the SDLT 320 drive uses existing Super DLTtape I media, IT managers can migrate to a higher-performing drive while continuing to access data written to previous generations of DLTtape and Super DLTtape.

"As data storage requirements continue to increase, features including reliability, backward compatibility, high capacity and total cost of ownership become important factors within an automated IT infrastructure," said John Freeman, Strategic Marketing Decisions. "Overland Data and their NEO Series libraries, with next-generation SDLT 320 technology, are well positioned to meet the current and future demands of an ever-expanding automation environment."
