Overland Data Neo Series 4000 Named ``Editor's Choice'' by Network Computing Magazine; Company's Expandable Tape Library Rated Best in Industry Again

April 17, 2002

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 2002--Overland Data Inc. (Nasdaq:OVRL), a market leader in enterprise and mid-range tape automation solutions, today announced that it has received the Editor's Choice Award by Network Computing magazine for its Neo Series(TM) 4000 expandable tape library.

The Editor's Choice rating is based on a competitive roundup of tape automation products from Overland, ADIC, Compaq, Qualstar and Quantum that Network Computing technical analysts completed in its Green Bay, Wis., Real-World Labs(R). The review is based on five major performance factors: ease of use, quality, price, scalability and overall performance.

"Overland writes the book on tape libraries," according to the review written by Steven J. Schuchart Jr., and published in the April 1 issue of Network Computing. "We chose the Overland Data Neo Series 4000 as our Editor's Choice. This expandable library is an excellent pick for many applications and can be scaled up to serve growing needs, both from a tape/slot standpoint and from a drive perspective. Top-notch menus, operation, setup and support make the Neo Series 4000 a first-class unit, and the price, warranty and ease in which the machine operated impressed us."

"We're thrilled that Network Computing has recognized the Neo series 4000 library," said Bob Scroop, vice president and general manager of Overland's Storage Resource Business Unit. "The Neo Series 4000 is a truly modular, easy-to-use enterprise solution that allows customers to adapt as their needs dictate. It is gratifying to see the industry validating what we and our customers have known all along -- Neo is indeed the best library out there."

Introduced to the market in October 2001, Overland's Neo Series 4000 provides unprecedented levels of availability through Non-Stop Operation, investment protection through SmartScale Architecture, and flexible connectivity to direct attach or SAN environments through Virtual Interface Architecture. This 24 TB library is available in Super DLTape and LTO Ultrium, with up to 16 drives and up to 240 cartridges.
