Overland Dramatically Increases Capacity and Performance With New Super DLT Automation Products

November 20, 2000

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2000--Overland Data Inc. (Nasdaq:OVRL), a technology leader in tape backup products, today introduced two powerful new Super DLTtape(a) automation solutions.

The SDLT LoaderXpress(R) and the SDLT MinilibraryXpress(TM), Overland's first products to incorporate Quantum's SDLT tape technology, doubles the capacity and performance of Overland's reliable, field-proven LoaderXpress and MinilibraryXpress.

Overland's SDLT LoaderXpress is an affordable desktop automated solution for workgroup, departmental and small enterprise environments. By adding SDLT drives to the LoaderXpress, the first product to deliver enterprise tape automation for the price of a standalone drive, Overland is able to offer an automation platform with native capacity of up to 110 gigabytes per cartridge, and data rate performance of up to 11 MB (22 MB/sec with compression). This powerful new product provides 1.1 TB of capacity in an automated SDLT solution that makes loading single tapes a thing of the past.

With the boost in capacity SDLT provides, the SDLT LoaderXpress enables network servers to be backed up for more than two months without any operator intervention. Despite its entry-level price, the SDLT LoaderXpress delivers many of the same benefits as Overland's award-winning LibraryXpress(TM), such as a convenient cartridge magazine design to simplify media loading and storage, and the field-proven reliability of Overland's mainframe-class robotics technology.

The SDLT MinilibraryXpress provides the performance and reliability of Overland's award-winning robotics design with a breakthrough in price/performance. This powerful product now offers 79 GB/hour native throughput with dual drive performance, and 1.65 TB of native capacity in an affordable dual-drive-ready solution. It is well suited for price-conscious customers who need performance beyond single-drive loaders, but do not require the scalabilty of a more expensive tape library.

The SDLT MinilibraryXpress is also an ideal solution for unattended backup and restore operations. Its proven mainframe-class robotics ensure reliability and confidence for critical data storage management. It is available in desktop or rackmount models, with 1 or 2 tape drives and a removable 15-cartridge tape magazine.

"Overland is taking full advantage of the performance and capacity boost of SDLT in these two products, the first of our full line to be available with SDLT," said Overland Vice President of Marketing Steve Richardson. "The proven power and reliability of the DLT format combined with Overland's quality reputation in robotics provide an extremely attractive product group for automated tape storage."

The impressive performance and capacity of these new Overland products reflects a combination of Quantum's innovative Super DLT technology and Overland's industry-leading expertise in tape automation products. As Overland enhances its existing products with Super DLT drives, it will also implement an upgrade program for current Overland DLT customers.

Overland DLTtape products are backed by the company's innovative Guaranteed Up Time Service (GUTS(TM)) warranty program, guaranteeing 99% uptime performance and 100% data recovery, the only guarantee of its kind in the industry.
