(Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of backup and recovery solutions, today announced that one of its customers, the State of Oregon's Department of Consumer and Business Services, has been recognized for implementing one of the 100 most innovative technology projects for 2004 by InfoWorld magazine. InfoWorld editors honored the State of Oregon for its implementation of Overland's REO(TM) disk-based backup and recovery system, which protects mission-critical data for the agency's nine divisions and 17 field offices. West Coast Technology, a Southern California-based value-added reseller, managed the implementation.

Oregon's Department of Consumer and Business Services was experiencing explosive data growth -- data had doubled each year for last three years. Weekend backups that were required to ensure business continuity took at least 24 hours to complete, and often longer. The department researched the options of virtual tape solutions or adding another tape library. However, they needed something more flexible that would allow them to meet current and immediate future storage requirements, while taking advantage of newer technologies.
The department decided to augment its existing tape backup operations with a streamlined disk-to-disk (D2D) solution. It selected reseller West Coast Technology and the Overland Storage REO disk-based backup and recovery system. As a high-performance disk-based backup and recovery appliance, the REO significantly increases the speed of full backups over previous methods, while providing near-instantaneous restores of current data. Its ability to handle multiple data streams enables the department to back up all 80 of its servers in less than six hours -- a significant improvement over the 24 hours it took previously. In addition, the department can move the data from the REO to tape without affecting network performance.
