New Autoloaders and Small Tape Libraries Gain Continuing Market Traction as SMB Customers Leverage 50 Percent More Capacity at a More Affordable Cost per Gigabyte

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of tape- and disk-based backup and recovery solutions, has shipped more than 1,500 ARCvault SERIES(TM) tape libraries and autoloaders to cost effectively and easily backup and archive large amounts of data. Ideally suited for small or medium-sized businesses as well as remote offices of larger organizations, the ARCvault family combines high-capacity, affordable storage with unsurpassed simplicity to reduce overall data protection costs and complexities.

Introduced in July, the ARCvault 12 autoloader and ARCvault 24 rack-optimized tape library are gaining substantial market traction where capacity, simplicity and affordability are key. The series provides up to 19.2 TB of storage -- 50 percent more capacity at up to 30 percent lower cost per gigabyte than competing products. Additionally, the ARCvault series supports industry-leading features often found in higher-end and more expensive tape libraries, including touch-screen, front-panel configuration; web-based remote management; automated backup and archival; removable cartridge magazines and barcode support for enhanced media management.

"The ARCvault family addresses ever-increasing data protection requirements by blending high-capacity and unsurpassed simplicity to deliver the best overall value for entry-level tape automation," said Peri Grover, director of product management at Overland Storage. "As a result, early ARCvault adoption has surpassed our expectations with deployments continuing to accelerate among organizations seeking highly effective and more affordable backup and archival."

ARCvault integrates seamlessly into existing backup environments and can be easily deployed as part of a disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) solution. Many SMBs are looking for more comprehensive data protection including both disk and tape but have found the combined solutions too costly to implement. Overland's ARCvault, however, removes price and performance barriers, enabling IT managers to deploy a tiered storage approach for optimum data protection. The combination of ARCvault with Overland's REO SERIES(TM) disk-based VTL backup and recovery appliance gives organizations of all sizes a highly effective D2D2T strategy.

"With solid features and competitive differentiators, ARCvault is fulfilling the need for high capacity, cost-effective and easy-to-use tape automation for backup and archival of critical data," said Brian Garrett, industry analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group.

Both ARCvault 12 and ARCvault 24 offer support for industry-leading LTO-2 and LTO-3 tape drive technologies in a space- and cost-saving 2u form factor. For users with higher performance requirements, the ARCvault 24 library supports dual LTO tape drives. Unlike competitive products that only support single tape drives, the ARCvault 24 is capable of delivering up to 50 percent faster data transfer rates. This advanced functionality combined with ARCvault's capacity advantage is driving worldwide adoption for a variety of backup and archive applications.

The ARCvault family as well as Overland's REO SERIES are available through Overland's partners worldwide.
