SAN DIEGO, Aug 6, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --

Overland Enterprise Tape Libraries Combined With EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix Enterprise Storage Deliver Best Scalable Storage

Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), the fastest growing provider of enterprise and mid-range storage solutions, today announced that EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) has qualified Overland's comprehensive set of automated enterprise storage libraries for use with EMC's CLARiiON(R) and Symmetrix(R) Enterprise Storage systems as E-Lab Tested(TM). Overland's Neo Series(TM) and AIT LibraryPro(TM) tape libraries work with EMC's networked storage solutions to provide customers flexible storage and tape library configurations that meet changing budget and technical requirements while increasing IT productivity.

"Our compatibility offers more variety and opportunity to customers who have zero tolerance for down-time," said Robert Scroop, vice president and general manager of Overland's storage resource business unit. "Our tape libraries offer EMC customers the opportunity to precisely configure the modular tape subsystem to match custom storage requirements by purchasing only the capacity that is currently required. It further provides the flexibility for future expansion as data grows. This investment protection improves ROI and reduces costs for customers, resulting in more cost-effective products."

As a result of EMC's qualification of Overland's enterprise-class Neo Series libraries and AIT LibraryPro, IT managers now have a wide variety of drive technologies to choose from, including DLT8000, SuperDLT, LTO Ultrium, AIT2 and AIT3.

EMC conducts the industry's most comprehensive testing, assuring customers the highest level of interoperability assurance. EMC's E-Lab Tested qualification process is a series of exhaustive functionality and reliability tests to ensure the interoperability of all components that make up a multi- vendor information storage network.

"In EMC's E-Labs, engineers replicate customer environments using 2,600 terabytes of storage across nearly five acres of floor space," said Chuck Hollis, EMC's vice president of markets and products. "E-Lab Tested means that Overland's tape libraries are fully interoperable with EMC information storage systems, enabling customers to deploy heterogeneous storage networks, quickly, reliably and cost-effectively."

Overland's enterprise libraries provide nonstop operation and expansion on demand, allowing EMC customers to build as they grow, while keeping existing libraries functional. The high availability configuration of the Neo Series including Live Swap(TM) technology and redundant components such as power supplies, tape drives and Fibre-to-SCSI bridges, reduce unscheduled downtime and increase IT productivity. The Neo Series also can be easily upgraded in the field to install new technology, further reducing costs. Overland offers the largest tape density, terabyte per square foot, saving premium floor space in data centers for other IT products.

EMC's Symmetrix and CLARiiON Enterprise Storage systems offer superior performance, reliability and manageability. EMC's highly available, scalable information storage platforms are the engines for providing capacity, data integrity, and storage-related functionality. Robust software and microcode enable continuous access to all information -- regardless of where it originated or what form it's in.
