Co-Architect of iSCSI to Discuss Benefits of High-Speed, High-Performance Protocol at 'Storage in the Enterprise' Workshop
SAN DIEGO, June 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), the leading provider of backup and recovery solutions, today announced that John Matze, vice president and chief technology officer, is scheduled to discuss iSCSI technology and its applications during a workshop at the Enterprise Communications Consortium at SUPERCOMM on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, between 9:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. at McCormick Place in Chicago. His topic will be: "Storage in the Enterprise: SAN-NAS-DAS -- Building Resiliency into Enterprise Networks."
Matze is a co-architect of the iSCSI protocol, an Internet Engineering Task Force standard for transporting low-latency SCSI blocks across IP networks.
"ISCSI is a simple, effective and easy to install technology that utilizes familiar and inexpensive Ethernet technology to deliver high speed and the high performance equivalent of direct attached storage. Adding iSCSI to a storage environment delivers near-instantaneous restores and significantly shorter backup windows," Matze said.
He noted that iSCSI has the capability to span great distances and enable storage consolidation and device sharing at a low cost, "With disaster recovery planning so pervasive in today's data centers, iSCSI is ideal for replicating, protecting and storing data in different physical locations, with the ability to manage the data remotely," Matze added.
The "Storage in the Enterprise" workshop will address the complexities involved with the design and deployment of large scale distributed SANs and the key issues that may be encountered, including areas such as scalability, availability, performance and security. The workshop will introduce available best practices and complementary technologies as well as relevant areas for industry standardization.
The Enterprise Communications Consortium is one of the oldest non-profit communications associations in the United States. Its mission is to promote the exchange of ideas and information among data and telecommunications professionals.
