Disk-Based Backup and Recovery Appliance Delivers Faster Backups
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overland Storage, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of backup and recovery solutions, today announced that the REO(R) 4000 is qualified for use with VERITAS NetBackup(TM) 5.0 Enterprise Server and VERITAS NetBackup(TM) 5.0 Server. With this qualification, VERITAS customers seeking faster backup and restores and a lower total cost of ownership for data protection can be confident that REO 4000 will integrate seamlessly in their current environment. Overland achieved the qualification through the VERITAS Enabled(TM) Program. This program ensures products are joint-tested and validated to help customers manage complex, heterogeneous storage environments; reduce the risk of multi-vendor implementations; and lower costs through improved storage utilization and management.

The high performance REO 4000 disk-based backup and recovery appliance is capable of operating with up to 64 virtual tape drives while providing the performance and data protection of a RAID 5 disk array. In virtual tape mode, the REO 4000 moves data to disk in the LTO-2 tape format.

REO 4000 brings support for VERITAS customers' Solaris and Windows storage area networks (SANs) using Fibre Channel. Storage administrators have the ability to configure a REO 4000 to operate as a tape device, a disk device or any combination of 64 tape and disk devices. This flexibility supports a wide range of backup and storage strategies and allows customers to quickly integrate disk-based storage into existing data protection environments.
Introduced in April 2004, the REO 4000 is Overland's next-generation disk-based backup and recovery product that can perform significantly faster than many other disk-based products. The easy-to-install, preconfigured system incorporates high-capacity, serial ATA disks, specialized software, both iSCSI and Fibre Channel connectivity, and RAID 5 capabilities. When integrated with tape automation, such as Overland's NEO SERIES(R) of tape libraries, REO provides a comprehensive disk-to-disk-to-tape solution. The REO is available through select Overland partners.
