Overland Storage SRM Product Improves NAS Management

July 29, 2003

SAN DIEGO, July 29, 2003 – Overland Storage (Nasdaq: OVRL), a leading provider of storage solutions, today announced enhanced Storage Resource Management (SRM) functionality for Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices from Network Storage Solutions (NSS). Overland's SRM was tested and qualified on the NSS NAS1000 and NSS NAS2000 gateways.

Overland SRM software's open architecture enables seamless integration with other applications and devices with NSS NAS gateway servers. NSS is a pioneer in the development of mid-range NAS systems, and its award-winning NAS software, SPANStor, provides the ability to configure and manage NSS NAS devices. IT professionals now have additional storage management functionality with Overland SRM. By using SRM's intelligent actions for moving, migrating and deleting data, NSS devices can keep the most relevant data, thus saving storage space and increasing overall system performance.

"Streaming media, Web-based business applications, engineering and scientific applications add network data at a tremendous growth rate," said John Cloyd, vice president of Overland's storage management business unit. "As Overland SRM works with NSS to set thresholds, create automated policies to alleviate IT staff intervention and free space on the NAS disk storage system, IT staffs realize greater ROI by keeping only the most critical data and eliminating unnecessary purchases for new storage."

"Data life cycle management is becoming more critical as federal mandates force users to not only store, but identify large volumes of data," said Tom Piacentini, vice president sales and marketing for NSS. "The administration of the data is paramount to avoiding excessive data mining efforts and excessive storage purchases that only make the identification of critical data more difficult for the user. The combination of Overland SRM products and our extensive NAS product line provides the tools required to manage so that you know what data you have stored and where."

Overland SRM is designed to help businesses reduce their costs of acquiring and managing their IT storage by providing tools that enable the development of automated storage management, invariably reducing cost. Overland's active SRM supports Windows NT/2000, Novell Netware, Sun Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and Linux operating environments, and is fully compatible with all leading brands of server/storage products. Overland active SRM product benefits include:

Easy to use browser-based user interface Fast, non-intrusive installation with automatic push agents Full compatibility with all popular operating environments Automated data discovery with a rich suite of standard reports Customized powerful reporting capability Automated reporting, trend analysis, threshold setting/monitoring, and automatic alarm notification for when policies are breached or thresholds are crossed Quota-based storage management Comprehensive notification tools such as SNMP, email, pager and pop-up messages
